October 2
Officer met with a resident that donated a package of narcan to the department. The gesture was appreciated.
Officer was dispatched to the 900 block of West Division Street for a civil property dispute.
Officer was dispatched to remove unwanted subjects in the 300 block of SW 3rd Street. The subjects had established residency and could not be removed without an eviction.
Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of South Exchange Street to check an open door. The door was shut and secured.
October 3
Officer, along with the fire department and Stark Co Medic, were dispatched to a structure fire in the 900 block of SE 2nd Street. This complaint was unfounded.
Officer was dispatched to the 700 block of NE 3rd Ave for a loose dog complaint. The dog was impounded.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of SW 4th Street for a prowler complaint.
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of SE 1st Street for a theft complaint.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of NW 5th Street for a possible attempted burglary after a garage door was found to be opened. Nothing was reported missing.
October 4
Officer was flagged down in the 100 block of NW 8th Ave in reference to 2 ducks that were hanging out at the residence. The ducks were transported to the Vet Clinic to be re-homed to a rural location.
As the result of a traffic stop in the 300 block of SE 2nd Street, Travis Finin, 52, Galva, was arrested for driving while license suspended and operating a vehicle with expired registration. He was released with a required court date.
Officer was flagged down in the 100 block of SE 3rd Ave in reference to a cell phone that had been found in the roadway. Officer determined the rightful owner and returned it.
While patrolling, officer noticed the crossing arms were malfunctioning at the NE 6th Ave crossing. BNSF was contacted for repairs.
Officer was dispatched to meet with staff at Courtyard Estates, who made a donation to the police department after a fundraiser event. This gesture was appreciated.
Officer was notified about the repossession of a vehicle that was taking place in the 400 block of SE 1st Street.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of SW 2nd Street to recover an illegal substance that fell out of an unknown customer’s pocket. The suspected narcotics were recovered and will be destroyed.
October 5
Officer was dispatched to assist the ambulance with gaining entry into an apartment at the Lincoln House for a medical emergency.
Officer was dispatched to the west edge of town on Route 34 to watch for two reckless drivers coming from the Altona area. Officer did not locate either suspect vehicle.
Officer was dispatched to a disturbance in the 200 block of NW 5th Street involving several juveniles. Upon arrival, officer learned that there had been a two vehicle accident with damage only. As a result, John Bersell, 18, Galva, was issued a citation for disobeying stop sign. The other driver, a 17 year old from Galva, was also issued a citation for disobeying a stop sign.
Officer spoke to a resident by telephone in reference to a child custody dispute.
Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of NE 3rd Street for a dog bite complaint. The complainant suffered a small puncture wound for a loose pitbull. The dog owner was advised of the Illinois leash law.
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of SW 6th Ave for a large amount of broken glass and hypodermic needles found in the roadway. Officer contacted the Street Dept and the items were cleaned up and disposed of.
Officer was dispatched to Wiley Park for a complaint involving unruly teenagers at the park.
Officer was dispatched to the 500 block of NW 1st Ave for a cat bite complaint.
Officer was notified that a train was stopped and all Galva crossings were blocked. BNSF was contacted. They advised trains were stopped due to a suicidal subject on an Amtrak in Kewanee.
Officer was dispatched several miles west of town to assist Henry Co with a mental health crisis.
Officer was dispatched to the 400 block of South Center Ave to assist a subject that was operating a motorized wheelchair and had a dead battery.
October 6
Officer was dispatched to a residence on SW 4th Ave for an ambulance emergency involving a subject with no signs of life. The coroner was contacted.
Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of NW 2nd Ave for a loose dog complaint. Officer was not able to locate.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of SW 2nd Street for a gas drive off complaint.
Officer was dispatched to the 100 block of NW 2nd Ave for a civil complaint.
Officer was dispatched to the 200 block of NW 4th Street for a utility wire down. It was determined to be a cable wire. Mediacom was contacted.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of Chester Street for a car vs dog accident with damage only. The animal owner, Tayler Stewart, 29, Galva, was issued a notice to appear in court for allowing a dog to run at large. The dog was reportedly not injured.
October 7
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of SW 2nd Street for a gas drive off complaint.
Officer, along with the fire department, were dispatched to a small fire outside the Lincoln House. Officer used a fire extinguisher.
Officer was flagged down on Front Street in reference to a traffic complaint. Officer did not locate suspect vehicle.
Officer was dispatched to the 400 block of NE 1st Street for a 9-1-1 hang up call. It was determined to be a pocket dial.
Officer was dispatched to the 300 block of SW 3rd Street for a welfare check for a subject outside screaming. Subject said they were fine and went back inside.
October 8
Officer was dispatched to the east edge of town on Route 34 for a reckless driver complaint. Officer did not locate suspect vehicle.
Officer was dispatched to the 600 block of NW 7th Ave for a physical domestic disturbance. As the result, Larry Colwell, 58, Galva, was arrested for domestic battery. He was transported to the Henry Co Jail.
Officer was dispatched to the 00 block of SW 4th Street for a prowler complaint. This was unfounded.
