Big First Quarter Leads to Newman Girls Beating Kewanee

The Kewanee Girls Basketball team traveled to Sterling on Monday night for a game against Newman Central Catholic. The first quarter turned out to be a difference maker in this game as Newman Central Catholic jumped out to 17 to 2 advantage on their way to a 42 to 37 victory. The Kewanee girls battled back hard, with an especially strong 3rd quarter but it was not enough in the end. Johns for Newman scored 18 points overall and led all scorers on the night. Kewanee was led by Mya Dearing with 10 points and Emma Crofton who hit three 3 three pointers on the night, including two in the 3rd quarter comeback. With the win, Newman Central Catholic moves to 4 and 15 on the season while Kewanee falls to 6 and 13. The Boiler Girls are back in action on Wednesday night, at home against Mendota, a game you will hear on WKEI 100.1 FM and 1450 AM beginning at 7 Pm.
