Kewanee Baseball Loses Heartbreaker to Mercer County

Monday’s game against Mercer County was a heartbreaker for Kewanee’s Boilermakers, as they lost the lead late in a 4-2 defeat. The game was tied at two with Mercer County batting in the bottom of the sixth when Hoffman singled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Kewanee lost despite out-hitting Mercer County three to two.

Mercer County fired up the offense in the second inning. An error scored one run for Mercer County.

Boelens was on the pitcher’s mound for Mercer County. Boelens surrendered one run on two hits over four innings, striking out eight.

Colson Welgat was on the hill for Kewanee. Welgat lasted five innings, allowing one hit and two runs while striking out seven. Clark Heeren threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Welgat, Corbyn Powers, and Devin Hamrick each collected one hit to lead Kewanee.
