“Kewanee hosted Newman for its home and conference opener on Monday (pdf of box score attached). The Boilermakers fell 11-1 in 5 innings.

Jackson Hawkins led the Boiler offense with an RBI double that scored Ayden Hendrix after Hendrix worked a walk. Colson Welgat added a base hit to round out the total Boiler offense for the day.

Clark Heeren started on the mound for the Boilers, his second start. Heeren worked 3 innings, scattering 5 hits, 5 walks and 7 runs, and had 3 strikeouts. James Roginski and Devin Hamrick both threw an inning in relief before the run-rule took effect in the 5th inning.

Tunink threw a complete game for the Comets, scattering 2 hits, 1 run, and 5 walks, and added 11 strikeouts.

Tunink also led the Comet offense with a 3-run HR in the second inning, also working 2 walks and scoring 3 runs. Williams and Oswalt added 2 hits, while Matznick, Johns, and Britt each recorded a hit to account for the 8 total hits for the Comets.

The Boilers are back in action today (3/28) at home at 1:00PM against Plainfield Central.”
