Location: Geneseo High School – Geneseo Thanksgiving Shootout

Final Score:

Kewanee – 62

Chicago Intrinsic – 27

The Boilermakers once again traveled to Geneseo High School for day two of the Geneseo Thanksgiving Shootout to take on the Ravens from Chicago Intrinsic. Kewanee looked to build off of their opening night win with a more well rounded performance.

Kewanee started the game by being aggressive at both ends of the court. Offensively the Boilers looked to attack the lane and put pressure on the Ravens defense and were successful in the opening frame. On the defensive end, Kewanee used a more pressure style to their zone to create more opportunities in transition and easy looks at the rim. The Boilers were led offensively by two juniors in the opening quarter, Brady Clark led the team with 8 points and Will Rumbold had 6. Kewanee would close the quarter with a 16-9.

Quarter two would see the Boilermakers continue the defensive pressure on the Ravens to force more turnovers and fast break looks off of their defense. Clark again paced the Boilers with 6 second quarter points to push the lead to 33-17 at the break.

The second half was a much better overall performance from the Boilermakers as they held Intrinsic to just 10 second half points. Kewanee’s second half defense was a complete team effort with getting deflections that would lead to steals and easy baskets in transition. The Boilermakers of Kewanee would take the win 62-27 to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Kewanee was led in scoring by juniors Clark and Rumbold with 26 and 12 respectively. Senior James Campbell came off the bench to put in 8 points with two 3 pointers made. Sophomore Catrelle Reed chipped in 7 followed by junior Blaise Lewis with 5. Lewis played a tremendous overall floor game while playing the point guard position on offense and the point of the zone on defense. Senior Jaiden Little would round out the scoring with 4 points.

Kewanee will close out the Geneseo Shootout with two games tomorrow. At noon, the Boilers will take on Rockridge followed by a 7:30 matchup with the host Geneseo Maple Leafs.
