Kewanee High traveled to Hall High School Friday night for a TRAC East conference matchup with the Hall Red Devils. The Boilers entered the contest with a 7-7 overall record and search of a much needed win after losing 3 of their last 4 games.

The first quarter would go back and forth with Kewanee gaining the upper hand 15-11 after one. Brady Clark would lead the way with 10 first quarter points.

Quarter two would have each teams leading scorers trade baskets for much of the quarter. Mac Resetich, who last week passed the 1,000 point mark, would drop in 9 points to keep Hall within striking distance at the break. The Boilermakers leading scorer, junior Brady Clark, would tally 16 second quarter points to put the Boilers up 40-30 to end the half.

The second half was played at a much slower pace as the Red Devils would use a box and one defense to slow Clark in the third quarter. Clark would end the quarter with 6 of the teams 10 points while senior Jaiden Little would drop in 4 points in the quarter on his way to double figures with 10 for the game. Kewanee’s defense would limit Hall to only 7 third quarter points while stretching the lead to 50-37 after three.

To open the fourth quarter Hall would once again change defenses and apply a full court man to man trying to pressure the Boilers into turnovers and rushed shots. The pressure defense proved effective early on in the quarter as the Red Devils close the score to 56-49 with about 3 minutes to play.

Kewanee would use strong ball handling by guards Blaise Lewis, Catrelle Reed and Clark to close out the game as Hall began to foul with under two minutes remaining in the game. Lewis and Reed would convert 7-11 free throws to close out the game and the Boilers held on for a 63-53 victory. The win moves the Boilers to 8-7 and will host Sterling Newman Tuesday night at 7PM in Brockman Gym.

Leading scorers for Kewanee was juniors Brady Clark with 34 and Blaise Lewis with 10. Senior Jaiden Little had one of his best games of the season while finishing with 10 points. Catrelle Reed, sophomore, chipped in 5 points to go along with solid defense throughout the game. Will Rumbold, junior, scored 4 points and continued his steady defense and rebounding.
