Kewanee High traveled to Bureau Valley High School to take on the Storm in a TRAC East matchup on Friday. Bureau Valley jumped out to a quick 10-2 lead as Kewanee found it difficult to get shots to fall early in the contest. The Boilers were kept in the game by some sharp shooting by sophomore Catrelle Reed with a pair of three pointers. At the end of the first quarter the score was tied at 12-12.
Quarter two would see the Boilermakers take control of the game led by their junior guard duo and leading scorers on the season of Blaise Lewis and Brady Clark. Lewis dropped in 10 second quarter points with a pair of threes and Clark contributed 9 Will going 5 of 6 from the foul line in the quarter. Kewanee would take a 38-20 lead to the locker room.
The Storm would not go away quietly in the second half as they continued to play hard defensively while causing some Boilermaker turnovers which contributed to extra opportunities that Bureau Valley would capitalize on. The Storm would win the quarter 13-12 and close the deficit to 50-33 after three.
The final quarter had both teams clearing the benches early on with Bureau Valley winning the quarter 17-12 making the final a 62-50 victory for the Boilers.
Kewanee was lead in scoring by Clark with 19, while going 7-9 from the foul line. Lewis dropped in 15, which included three 3 pointers. Reed would chip in 11, with three 3 pointers. Rounding out the scoring was solid play from sophomore Davontae Jordan with 6, junior Will Rumbold had 4 to go along with his usual solid defensive effort and senior James Campbell chipped in 2.
With the win the Boilers improve to 7-5 on the season and will be back in action Saturday afternoon in the Sauk Valley Bank Shootout at Rock Falls High School. The Boilers are matched up against the Erie-Prophetstown Panthers, tip is set for 3:00PM.
