The Boilermakers of Kewanee traveled to Port Byron on a Saturday afternoon to take on the Riverdale Rams. The Boilers had a quick turnaround after a Friday night win at IVC then back on the road to take on Riverdale. This game marked the 9th road game of the first 10 games to start the 2022-23 season for the Boilers.

Kewanee entered the contest with a 5-4 record, while the Rams were 7-2. The first quarter would have the Boilers using their suffocating zone defense to limit easy opportunities for the Rams. Kewanee would end the quarter up 12-7 while spreading their scoring around to 4 different Boilers.

Quarter two was much of the same, with the Boilers using team defense to force tough contested shots from the Rams while pushing the tempo offensively. The Boilermakers were led my juniors Brady Clark and Will Rumbold with 9 and 8 points to stretch the lead at the break to 29-19.

The second half would see the Boilermakers continue to play team defense while sharing and moving the ball effectively on offense but never could pull away from the Rams. The third would end with the Boilers tacking on 2 points to their halftime lead to enter a enter the fourth quarter leading 42-30.

Riverdale would use a quick start to the 4th quarter added by a player technical foul to draw within 4 points with 6:18 remaining in the game. Kewanee though would find their composure led by Reed and Clark going a combined 4-4 from the foul line and Rumbold leading the quarter in scoring with 6 big points.

The Boilers would hold execute well down the stretch to take a 54-46 victory. Kewanee was led in scoring by Brady Clark with a game high 24, followed by Will Rumbold with 16. Sophomores Catrelle Reed and Davontae Jordan would put in 5 and 4 points each. Blaise Lewis would hit a big 3 pointer to account for his points while senior Jaiden Little chipped in a bucket.

Kewanee Improves to 6-4 on the season and will be in action after the holidays at home versus Princeton High on Tuesday, January 3.
