The Kewanee Boiler Girls put up a terrific defensive effort, especially in a tight fourth quarter, to hold off the Galva Wildcats, 38 to 33. Mya Dearing, who missed action in Monday’s win for the Boiler Girls, returned in fine form on Wednesday with a team leading 17 points in the win. But it was Kewanee’s defense that stood out as the Boiler Girls held Galva to 5 points in the second quarter and 5 points in the 3rd quarter as well. Galva fought back, outscoring the Boiler Girls in the fourth quarter, 14 to 11, but Kewanee scored when they needed it to earn the victory. With the win, Kewanee improved their record to 4 and 7 while Galva fell to 8 and 4 on the year. The Boiler Girls have no home games left in 2022. Their final game before Christmas is this Saturday, on the road against Riverdale. Then they have a New Year’s tournament before getting back to action with road games on January 5th, and January 9th. The next time you will hear Boiler Girls basketball on WKEI will be on January 11th, when they host Mendota.
