Kewanee traveled to Chillicothe IVC Friday
to take on the Grey Ghosts. The Boilermakers entered the contest at 4-4 and have lost their past two contests to Sterling Newman and Macomb. The Boilers were looking to start their weekend of back to back games with a win. Kewanee will travel to Port Byron to play the Riverdale Rams Saturday afternoon.
Kewanee started the game slow on both ends of the court and struggled to get much going on the offensive end as they fell behind early by 5 points at 9-4. Sophomore Catrelle Reed and junior Blaise Lewis kept the Boilers close with a three pointer each. At the end of the first IVC led 11-7.
The second quarter would see the Boilermakers assert themselves a bit more defensively by limiting the Grey Ghosts to 8 second quarter points to take a 22-19 lead into halftime. Once again Reed would lead the way in the quarter as the sophomore would knock down two more 3 point attempts.
Quarter three would be the deceive quarter as the Boilers would have their most complete quarter of the season. Kewanee would drop in 25 points led by their leading scorer for the season junior Brady Clark who would tally 16 third quarter sports. Kewanee would stretch their 3 point halftime lead to 18 after the third.
The final frame would see the Boilers continue to push the tempo of the game at both ends of the court. Forcing turnovers and easy opportunities on the offensive end. Kewanee would have 9 players score with 3 reaching double figures. Clark led the way with 22, followed by Reed with 14 and Lewis contributing 12. Lewis and Reed combined for six 3 pointers made of the teams 9 made threes.
Also making the scoring column was senior Jaiden Little with 6 with fellow seniors James Campbell and Jaytez Talbert knocking down a 3 each. Juniors Cristian Cazares and Cruz Paredes chipped in 3 and 2 respectively. To round out the Boilers scoring was sophomore Davontae Jordan with 1 point but his biggest contribution was at the defensive end by causing havoc at the point of the Boilermaker zone.
Kewanee improves to 5-4 on the season and travel to Port Byron Saturday to take on the 7-2 Riverdale Rams. Tip is set for 2:30PM
