Kewanee Football defensive standout Blake Johnston has committed to play Football at Iowa Western Community College. Surrounded by family and supported by the Kewanee Athletics Department, Johnson made the decision official on Wednesday with an official signing photo. After the photo op, Kewanee High School released a statement:

“Blake’s defensive play was a major reason why the Boilermakers were in the 2023-24 IHSA Playoffs. Blake was Kewanee’s All Time defensive Sack Leader. Opposing quarterbacks had to be on the lookout for Johnston all the time as he was always in their backfield. Blake will take his defensive skills to Iowa Western in 24-25, as they try to make it three in a row for National Titles.”

Iowa Western clinched the 2023 NJCAA Division 1 Football National Championship in a victory against East Mississippi, concluding with a dominant score of 61-14 at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock. The Reivers, ended their season with a 12-1 record. The championship win marks Iowa Western as the first team to secure back-to-back national titles since East Mississippi accomplished the feat five years ago, setting a new benchmark in junior college football excellence.
