Mets reliever Reed Garrett out for 2026 after Tommy John surgery

New York Mets reliever Reed Garrett underwent Tommy John surgery on Wednesday and will miss the entire 2026 season, the team announced Thursday.

Garrett missed much of the final month of the season due to elbow issues. He had a 15-day stint from late August into early September on the injured list due to right elbow inflammation. He returned and made four relief appearances before he was placed on the IL again with a right elbow strain on Sept. 18, ending his season.

After Garrett was used sparingly as a reliever for the Detroit Tigers (2019), Washington Nationals (2022) and Baltimore Orioles (2023), he broke out for the Mets over the last two seasons since they claimed him off waivers.

Garrett, 32, finished with a sub-4.00 ERA in each of the last two seasons over a combined 111 appearances and 112 2/3 innings, with 147 strikeouts to 56 walks and seven saves.
