UConn remains No. 1 after narrow win against Michigan

Defending national champion UConn stayed at No. 1 in The Associated Press Top 25 women’s college basketball poll released Monday, coming off a big win last week against Michigan.

The Huskies (6-0) received 30 of 32 first-place votes and the top six remained unchanged, with No. 2 South Carolina (6-0) and No. 3 UCLA (6-0) each receiving one vote.

They are followed by Texas (5-0), LSU(6-0) and Michigan (5-1), which remained at No. 6 following its 72-69 loss last Friday to UConn in the Naismith Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase.

The Bruins and Longhorns meet in a top-five showdown on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

Maryland (7-0) moved up two spots to No. 7, with TCU (6-0), Oklahoma (5-1) and Iowa State (7-0) rounding out the top 10.

Iowa (6-0) was the week’s biggest climber, jumping eight spots to No. 11. Baylor (5-1) tumbled eight places to No. 15 and North Carolina State (3-3) slipped nine spots to No. 25.
