It was a near-perfect conclusion to a near-perfect fall season as the Western Illinois University women’s tennis team closed out the fall portion of the schedule with a 7-0 victory over Quincy on Sunday afternoon. The Leathernecks now head to the fall break before beginning the winter and spring portion of the schedule on January 25 at IU Indy. The Leathernecks swept each match and only dropped one set on the day, cruising past the Hawks.

In doubles play, the teams of Paige Grice and Mana Fawcett (6-0), Richardlyne Francois and Nadezhda Petkova (6-4), and Chloe Routier and Nour Gueblaoui (6-4) cruised to victory.

Grice and Fawcett, playng No. 3 doubles, made short work of their foes while the pairings of Francois-Petkova and Routier-Gueblaoui were able to grind out wins.

In singles, it was much the same as Petkova and Gublaoui set the tone for the Leathernecks, each winning 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

The wins kept coming as at No. 1 singles, Grice claimed another straight-set victory, winning 6-0, 6-1. Gabriela Miteva also had a quick win at No. 3, winning 6-2, 6-2.

At No. 4 singles, after sitting out doubles, Lara Rossetto Diniz de Souza took a bit of time to warm up but also secured a straight-set win once she got cooking, 7-5, 6-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Routier played the day’s marathon match. The freshman took the first set, 6-2 before falling in the second, 4-6. In the third-set tiebreaker, Routier put an exclamation point on the Leatherneck win, triumphing 10-4.
