Israeli Ministers Tapped To Oversee Next Phase of US-Backed Gaza Plan

By The Media Line Staff

Israel’s Security Cabinet voted on Thursday to create a small group of lawmakers tasked with putting the second stage of President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan into effect. This follows a United Nations Security Council decision earlier in the week endorsing the US proposal and authorizing a new International Stabilization Force for the Gaza Strip. Israeli officials expect that force, approved under a UN mandate, to begin operating once conditions on the ground allow.

According to Israeli media, the new implementation team is slated to include Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, National Security Minister İtamar Ben-Gvir, and Justice Minister Yariv Levin. The cabinet’s move signals Israel’s commitment to coordinating with the United States on reshaping Gaza’s governance structure, while preparing for the arrival of an international presence intended to help secure the area and create space for reconstruction.

Kan News reported that debate over the team’s makeup surfaced soon after the cabinet decision. MK Gila Gamliel of the Likud Party criticized the absence of female members, saying representation by women would “give [the team] balance.”

MK David Amsalem, also from Likud, pressed officials on whether the group’s limited size was meant to restrict the spread of classified information. After Government Secretary Yossi Fuchs reportedly confirmed that concern, Amsalem pushed back, saying, “but these are the people who leak [information],” according to Kan.

President Trump’s plan, unveiled in late September, calls for a phased approach to stabilizing Gaza, pairing Israeli security requirements with international oversight. The UN-backed stabilization force is expected to work alongside Israeli authorities once deployed.
