Trump Administration Concerned Netanyahu May Abandon Gaza Peace Deal as Vance Heads to Israel

By The Media Line Staff

The Trump administration is reportedly worried that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could withdraw from the Gaza peace agreement, prompting a high-level visit by Vice President J.D. Vance to Israel on Tuesday. Senior American officials told The New York Times they are “increasingly worried” Netanyahu will cancel the deal, saying Vance’s trip is meant in part to monitor his actions.

According to administration sources, “the strategy now is for Vance, Witkoff, and Kushner to try to prevent Netanyahu from renewing a full-scale offensive in Gaza.” The White House, they added, is struggling to preserve the agreement, which has faced repeated violations but remains in effect.

Vance said Sunday that he expects the ceasefire and postwar agreement will be characterized by “fits and starts” between the two sides. “Hamas is going to fire on Israel,” he said. “Israel is going to have to respond. Some of Hamas’s cells will probably honor the ceasefire, and many of them will not. To properly disarm Hamas, we’ll need Gulf Arab states to get forces in there to apply some law and order and security keeping on the ground.”

US officials said Vance’s planned stop at the humanitarian aid compound inside the Gaza Strip has been dropped, and he may instead visit the American command center overseeing the truce or meet with defense officials at the Kirya headquarters in Tel Aviv.

The trip follows a visit on Monday to the Kirya by President Donald Trump’s senior envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, who met with IDF Military Intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Shlomi Binder and Planning Directorate head Maj. Gen. Eyal Harel. Their discussion centered on enforcing the ceasefire and the next stage of the US-brokered plan, which envisions a multinational stabilization force in Gaza to ensure Hamas is disarmed and the enclave demilitarized.
