In an impressive display of skill and knowledge about livestock, the Bureau County Master Showmanship Contest showcased local talent at the Bureau County 4-H Fair on July 12, 2024. Participants were evaluated across three categories: beef, swine, and sheep. Payton Frueh took home the prestigious title of Champion Master Showman, impressing the judges with her adept handling and expert knowledge. Carly Wiggim followed closely, earning the title of Reserve Master Showman, while Lydia Hardy finished in a commendable third place. The winners were awarded gift cards and special prizes, courtesy of the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation, celebrating their outstanding achievements in agricultural showmanship.
Along with the title, Payton was awarded a $100 gift card and buckle from the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation and has the opportunity to go on to represent Bureau County in the Illinois State Fair Master Showmanship Contest that will take place on Friday, August 9th.
The Reserve Showman was Carly Wiggim. Carly received a $50 gift card from the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation and a brush from the U of I Extension and can represent Bureau County at the State Fair if Payton is unable to do so.
The third place Master Showman was Lydia Hardy. Lydia received a $20 gift card from the Bureau County Farm Bureau Foundation and a water bottle from the U of I Extension.
