As we bid farewell to summer, Illinois is ramping up efforts to curb impaired driving through the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. This initiative, backed by the Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police alongside over 200 local law enforcement agencies, seeks to prevent the potentially devastating consequences of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Last year, the Labor Day weekend saw 11 fatal crashes in Illinois, with a significant portion involving alcohol. Authorities are enhancing patrols and emphasizing the importance of safety measures, including seatbelt use and observing speed limits. Residents are urged to plan ahead with sober transportation options and to intervene if they encounter someone attempting to drive impaired.
Seat belt laws will be enforced as part of the national “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” program.
