The Kewanee Police Department, Braveheart Children’s Advocacy Center, and Parents as Teachers have teamed up to offer a FREE car seat safety check on Sunday, September 22, 2024, at the Kewanee High School parking lot. This is the group’s first annual National Child Passenger Safety Week event. The Kewanee Police Department has two certified child passenger safety technicians, and the Braveheart CAC has one. The event is free to the public, and no appointments are required. The event is from 1 to 3 PM. All you need to do is bring your vehicle, child, car seat, and car seat manual to get checked for proper fit and installation based on your child’s weight and age. Technicians will also check your vehicle and car seat for recalls and ensure your car seat is registered to receive recall notifications. Officer Josh Carpenter will be there with juice boxes and snacks from Operation Juice Box for children while waiting, and there will be take-home crafts from Parents as Teachers. Bilingual services are available. They ask for your help to reach their goal of 30 car seat checks or more! Car seat checks take approximately 30 minutes.
If you had your car seat checked with the Kewanee Police Department between September 1st and September 22nd, you will be entered into free raffles for an outdoor child’s play set donated by Precision Print Worx of Kewanee and The Daily Fix Nutrition. For every referral, you both will receive additional entries for the raffle.
