The ‘Shoes for Kids’ initiative wrapped up on October 10th, exceeding its goals by providing 250 pairs of quality shoes to local schoolchildren through the efforts of Kewanee Area United Way and Breedlove’s Sporting Goods. Initially targeting 200 pairs, the program expanded due to community and business support. Local businesses played a key role, with plans to extend the initiative to junior and high school students in the near future.

“On behalf of the Neponset Grade School students, families, and staff, we want to sincerely thank you for the new tennis shoes for our students.  We are truly grateful to be a part of such a caring community!” from Neponset Principal, Dena Hodge-Bates

In 2024, Phase 1 was designated for Pre-K to 6th grade. In 2025, Phase 2 plans to provide shoes to junior high students and high school if enough funds are raised.

“The Ministerial Association, Salvation Army, Good’s Furniture, IHMVCU, Kiwanis, Rotary, New View Furniture, Union Federal, The Elks Lodge, St Johns Episcopal Church, Stark County Ambulance and quite a few website donors and one anonymous donor. What an awesome community! Thank you to all of the support for Shoes for Kids this year and other fundraising efforts this year!”
