In Galesburg, an intensive months-long investigation following a late-night shooting on Cherry Street has led to significant developments. On July 6, Mario D. Washington was found seriously wounded and later hospitalized. Police, together with multiple law enforcement agencies, identified two suspects, Gregory O. Wallace, 39, and James M. Wilson, 42. Recently, Wilson surrendered to authorities with legal representation and was brought before a court. Under the Pretrial Fairness Act, he was subsequently released and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on December 16th. The community awaits further proceedings as law enforcement continues its efforts in this case. Gregory O. Wallace was captured in Chicago at the end of October and is in Knox County Jail facing attempted murder charges. Wallace has a Preliminary Hearing scheduled for November 20, 2024, at 2 PM.
The Galesburg Police Department was assisted by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department, Knox County State’s Attorney, Illinois State Police, Illinois Secretary of State Police, and the FBI TOC West Task Force.
