Buckle Up and Drive Sober in Henry County “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaigns

The Henry County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Illinois State Police and other local agencies for a robust traffic safety campaign this holiday season. From November 22nd to December 2nd, the “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiatives will be in full force to ensure travelers are both sober and securely buckled up. Sheriff Josh Verscheure highlights the increase in vehicular traffic during Thanksgiving and stresses the importance of seat belt use and sober driving to prevent accidents. With a statewide seat-belt usage rate of 92.4%, authorities are pushing for even greater compliance, reminding everyone that safety doesn’t take a holiday. Residents are encouraged to plan for a sober ride and ensure all passengers are buckled up, enhancing safety for all on the road.

“Thanksgiving means more vehicles on the road and an increased risk of crashes,” said Sheriff Josh Verscheure. “No matter how long or short your drive, remember to buckle up and ensure that children are correctly secured in a safe seat. By buckling up and planning for a sober ride home, you help everyone enjoy a safe and happy holiday.”

If your celebration includes alcohol or other impairing substances, please remember:

• Plan for a sober ride home before you go out.
• Call a taxi, take mass transit, or ask a family member to get you home safely.
• Use your favorite rideshare service, such as Uber or Lyft, or opt for public transportation.
• If you see a drunk driver, pull over safely and call 911.
• Ensure everyone in your vehicle wears their seat belt. It is the best defense against an impaired driver.
