The Kewanee Police Department, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation, has initiated the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ and ‘Drive High, Get a DUI’ campaigns. Running from December 13th to January 2nd, this initiative enforces strict measures against impaired driving to ensure safety during the holiday season. Chief Stephen Kijanowski emphasizes the importance of planning a sober ride home and reports that law enforcement will maintain a zero-tolerance stance on impaired driving.
“This season, let’s make safety our shared priority,” said Chief Stephen Kijanowski. “If you plan to drink or use impairing substances, plan ahead for a sober ride home. Driving impaired isn’t just dangerous – it’s unacceptable. We’ll be out in full force, and no excuses will be accepted.”
The Kewanee Police Department urges everyone to take the following simple steps to prevent impaired driving:
- Plan ahead: Designate a sober driver, use public transportation, or arrange for a ride-sharing service.
- Check local options: Utilize your community’s sober ride programs, including local taxi services
- Report dangers: If you spot an impaired driver, pull over safely and contact the Kewanee Police Department or your local law enforcement agency.
- Be a hero: Stop a friend from driving impaired by taking their keys and helping them get home safely.
