Governor JB Pritzker and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources have allocated over $55 million to support 100 local park projects across the state. This funding, part of the Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program, aims to develop green spaces and recreational facilities, particularly focusing on economically distressed communities.
This year, 29 underserved areas will benefit from $17.3 million of the grants. Established in 1986, OSLAD has facilitated the creation and enhancement of numerous park projects, distributing around $640 million to date. This initiative not only promotes healthier lifestyles but also supports local economies and environmental sustainability.
