The Henry County Sheriff’s Office, in collaboration with the Illinois Department of Transportation, has successfully concluded its “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, a statewide initiative running from December 13th to January 2nd aimed at reducing impaired driving during the holiday season. The campaign led to 58 traffic stops, resulting in 41 citations for various offenses, including seat belts, speeding, and distracted driving. Two arrests were made for driving with a suspended or revoked license and one criminal arrest for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Sheriff Josh Verscheure emphasized the importance of sober driving, stating that the campaign is not only about law enforcement but also about safeguarding the community and ensuring safe holiday celebrations for all. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to enhance road safety during high-risk periods.
“We can’t stress it enough: Impaired driving is a deadly gamble,” said Sheriff Verschsure. “It’s illegal, it’s irresponsible and it puts lives at risk – yours, your passengers’ and everyone else’s on the road. Campaigns like ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ empower us to address this issue directly and send a clear message. If you’re under the influence of alcohol, cannabis or anything else, don’t drive.”
