Swift Response by Galesburg Fire Department Contains Residential Fire to Back Stairwell

On January 30th, The Galesburg Fire Department swiftly responded to a residential fire early Thursday morning at 109 S. Whitesboro Street. At 6:09 AM, crews from all three stations arrived to find heavy smoke and flames emerging from the back of the home. Battalion Chief Jim Pendergast took command as firefighters extinguished the blaze, which was confined to a back stairwell. Thankfully, the property was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported. Preliminary damage estimates stand at $10,000, with smoke affecting much of the home. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire while off-duty personnel were called in to ensure citywide emergency coverage.
