The Galesburg Fire Department tackled a significant structure fire on West Berrien Street on Monday, February 3rd. Shortly after 11 AM, crews found a detached garage with heavy fire visible from a doorway. Battalion Chief Matt Cain took command as firefighters from the Brooks Street Station deployed an attack hose line to bring the blaze under control. Eleven on-duty personnel worked alongside off-duty crews called in for additional support. One individual was transported to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the fire. The garage suffered approximately $10,000 in damage, and investigators are now working to determine the cause.
