Update – Beware of Icy Roads and Freezing Rain in Illinois and Iowa Tonight into Thursday

11:30 PM Road Update: Roads are partially to completely ice-covered across much of the area with towing not recommended in some counties. Sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, decks, and outdoor stairs will be icy. Drive and walk with extra caution! Be extra careful on exit and entrance ramps, while turning, and when approaching stops. There has been minor improvement to road conditions as of 12:53 AM.


The Prophetstown Fire Department advised residents to stay home due to 1% covered icy roads and numerous crashes.

The Colona Fire Department said, “Firefighters and EMS crews have been out on a few calls already. Road conditions have detererated drastically in the last 2 hrs. Very very icy, please stay home if you don’t need to be out!”

9:30 PM Road update

Whiteside Sheriff advised roads are 100% ice covered with many traffic crashes.  Bureau County advised roads are becoming icy. Use caution if travel is necessary.

Update from the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities: Freezing drizzle and freezing rain will continue into the late evening hours. Roads are partially to completely ice-covered across parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois with several accidents being reported. Roads, sidewalks, parking lots, driveways, and outdoor stairs may be icy. Drive and walk with extra caution! Be more careful on exit and entrance ramps, while turning, and when approaching stops.

In Iowa, Scott, Clinton, and Cedar counties are No-Tow zones due the deteriorating road conditions. Travel is not advised.  Illinois roads are becoming ice covered; drive with caution if you must travel.
