A significant altercation involving high school students erupted at Centre Station in Downtown Moline on February 27, 2025. Originating from a verbal dispute on a MetroLINK bus, the situation escalated into a physical confrontation in the parking lot of Centre Station. Officers and a social worker responded while MetroLINK buses continued their routes, inadvertently enlarging the crowd. Tensions flared, and numerous juveniles began to rush officers and other juveniles. Juveniles even surrounded the squad car with the social worker and one juvenile who was detained as part of the investigation.
A female witness on the bus described a scenario where male students were allegedly harassing their female counterparts. As the bus arrived at Centre Station, the argument escalated into a physical altercation in the parking lot. Numerous officers from the Moline Police Department, alongside school resource officers and a social worker, swiftly responded. Additionally, deputies from the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, also employed by Metrolink, were on the scene.
A 16-year-old male charged a group of juveniles on the west end of the parking lot, resulting in his arrest for resisting a peace officer after scuffling with law enforcement. Separately, a 15-year-old was detained for aggravated battery from the original call.
The case is still under investigation by the Moline Police Department, the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Office, and MetroLINK.
