SHARE NOW

Illinois State Representative Travis Weaver prompted an inspiring initiative by inviting nominations of outstanding women educators, sparking heartfelt responses. Today, let’s turn our attention to Rebecca Baney from Kewanee School District #229. A former student praised Mrs. Baney for her transformative role as a freshman English teacher, now leading as the district’s superintendent. Her journey from classroom to district leader is a testament to her passion and dedication, inspiring others to pursue careers in education. The nominator highlights Baney as a role model, embodying resilience and excellence that continues to motivate and elevate her community and colleagues alike. Rep Travis Weaver will be sharing the nominations on social media and his website” to ensure that these outstanding women get recognized for the tremendous impact they’ve made on their students and their peers.”

Mrs. Baney’s former student and nominator said, “Mrs. Baney has made a major impact on my career in education. She was my freshman English teacher but is now the superintendent of the Kewanee School District. From the time she was my teacher until now, she has inspired me to become a teacher and continue to push through any obstacle that comes my way. I am lucky to be able to teach at Kewanee School District with such a great leader. She is a wonderful role model and example for women in education!”

Mrs. Rebecca Baney said, ” I am truly honored and humbled by this recognition. When I first stepped into the classroom as an English teacher, my goal was always to support, challenge, and inspire my students to reach their full potential. One of the greatest rewards in serving as superintendent of Kewanee School District #229 is seeing former students thriving in their own careers in education.

Knowing that I have played even a small role in shaping the path of another educator means the world to me. Teaching is more than a profession. It’s a lifelong calling to serve, to grow, and to love. I am incredibly grateful to work with such a dedicated school board and district who value supporting our educators, cultivating opportunities, and investing in our youth.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. I am proud to serve my Boilermaker community, and I look forward to continuing to work together to be #simplythebest229.”
