The Kewanee Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 300 block of South Elm Street early on April 19, 2025. Fire crews arrived to find the 1 1/2 residence fully involved, with no residents at home during the fire. One cat and one dog escaped from the fire, but one dog died, and another is missing. Arson is suspected to be the cause of the fire. The residence is considered a total loss.
The fire remains under investigation by the Kewanee Fire Department, Kewanee Police Department, and Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The Kewanee Fire Department was assisted by the Kewanee Police Department, the Kewanee Community Fire Protection District, the Annawan/Alba Fire Protection District, and the Stark County Ambulance Service.
