Alejandro “Alex” Duarte has been recognized for his exceptional leadership, receiving the Ken Gerdes III Memorial Foundation Leadership Award at the Illinois Wrestling Coaches Officials Association Banquet in Alsip on April 28, 2025. Alongside his family, Coach Charley Eads, and Athletic Director Tim Atwell, Duarte accepted a $1,000 check to help fund his college education. The Ken Gerdes III Foundation, established in memory of a passionate figure in Illinois wrestling, aims to encourage student leaders. The annual scholarship goes to five students who demonstrate outstanding leadership in school and their communities, regardless of their academic record or financial need.
