The Kewanee Police Department is stepping up enforcement as part of the nationwide ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign, running May 16 through May 27. Officers are focusing on seat belt compliance, especially during nighttime hours when crash risks tend to increase. Motorists can expect more patrols and roadside checks as authorities stress the importance of buckling up. The campaign’s goal is to increase awareness, encourage safe driving habits, and ultimately reduce injuries and fatalities from traffic accidents. The department emphasizes that wearing a seat belt dramatically improves the odds of surviving a serious crash for all drivers and passengers.
“Seat belt use should be an automatic habit for everyone,” said Chief Kijanowski. “It’s not just safe; it’s the law. During this campaign, law enforcement agencies will be working together to ensure the message reaches all drivers and passengers. Buckling up is the simplest way to reduce injury or save a life in a crash.”
The “Click It or Ticket” campaign is funded with federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation. For more information on safe driving practices, visit ItsNotaGameIllinois.com.
