High-Speed Chase Ends in Arrest After Galesburg Ice Cream Parlor Robbery

A robbery at Flavor Freeze in Galesburg turned into a high-speed pursuit last night. Authorities say 67-year-old Grayling Churn allegedly robbed the 552 S. Farnham Street business, escaping with a bank bag filled with cash. When police attempted a traffic stop, Churn’s vehicle sped away, prompting a pursuit that ended on Linneus Avenue. After leaving his car and trying to escape on foot, Churn was detained following a brief chase. He now faces charges including aggravated robbery, fleeing and eluding, aggravated battery to a police officer, and multiple traffic offenses. The investigation continues, with Churn suspected in additional local robberies. The state has filed a petition to deny pretrial release. Churn is in the Knox County Jail awaiting a detention hearing.

Grayling Churn is charged with two (2) counts Aggravated Robbery/Indicate Arm/Firearm (Class 1 Felony), two (2) counts Aggravated Fleeing/2+Control Devices (Class 4 Felony), Resisting (Class 4 Felony), Criminal Damage to Property <$500 (Class A Misdemeanor), Speeding 26-34 Over Speed Limie (Class B Misdemeanor), Aggravated Battery to Peace Officer (Class 2 Felony), Burglary (Class 2 Felony), two (2) counts Aggravated Battery/Public Place (Class 3 Felony), Theft $500-10K (Class 3 Felony), and Aggravated Fleeing Police (Class 4 Felony) for case 2025CF299. He is charged with Aggravated Robbery/Indicate Arm/Firearm (Class 1 Felony) and Burglary (Class 2 Felony) for case 2025CF298.
