The Illinois Valley Food Pantry is preparing for a major move from its longtime LaSalle location to a larger site in Peru. The pantry will soon operate out of the historic Hoover’s Manufacturing Company building at 4133 Progress Boulevard. This new facility offers double the storage space, which leaders say will enhance efficiency and the ability to serve the community’s growing needs. To support needed renovations and purchase equipment, a fundraising campaign has been launched to raise seven hundred fifty thousand dollars. Pantry officials encourage community support to help meet their target and ensure a smooth transition. With the number of families seeking help soaring to around 750 each month across 12 towns and cities, organizers say their current facility in LaSalle just can’t keep up. The new location will offer 10,000 square feet, accommodating large walk-in freezers for crucial frozen food donations. Leaders believe the spacious warehouse design will streamline storage, bagging, and distribution. The pantry board also expressed gratitude to the Knafelc family, long-time supporters who have provided the current location.

“We don’t have an exact date yet as to when we will start distributing food in Peru but we anticipate it will be well before the end of the year.” said Mary Jo Credi, IVFP executive director.

Credi cited increasing need for the Pantry’s services as the reason for the move. “We don’t have room at our current location to store all of the food needed by a client list that has grown dramatically in recent years,” she said.

The Food Pantry has announced a major step forward with the launch of its $750,000 “Feeding the Future” fund drive. These funds will aid in purchasing and renovating the pantry’s new base of operations. Essential upgrades include walk-in coolers and freezers to better meet community needs. The Starved Rock Country Community Foundation is partnering with the Food Pantry on this initiative, strengthening efforts to combat local food insecurity and ensure healthier futures for area families. Every donation helps expand their reach and impact.
