Tragedy struck Bureau County last night as a head-on collision claimed two lives on 2400 E Street, just north of US Highway 6. Authorities say a 28-year-old man, driving a Jeep SUV, and a 61-year-old man, in a Chevrolet SUV, collided shortly before 8:40 PM. The 28-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 61-year-old driver was extricated from his vehicle and transported to OSF Saint Clare Hospital, where he was also pronounced dead. Official names remain confidential until notification to the family. The investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Illinois State Police.
Princeton Police, DePue Police, Princeton Fire and EMS, Malden Fire, and the Illinois State Police assisted at the scene.
