Galesburg Road Improvements Begin with Seal Coat and Cape Seal Work

SHARE NOW

Street maintenance projects are underway this week in Galesburg, as the city begins annual seal coat and cape seal work to extend the lifespan of local roads. The projects kicked off on Tuesday, August 26, focusing on the southeast section, and are expected to wrap up by the week’s end. Both treatments involve protective layers for improved durability, with the cape seal application finishing within two days. Residents should expect minor travel delays and are reminded that no parking is allowed on designated streets during the work. Details, including affected roadways, are available on the city’s interactive construction map online.

The process uses a two-part sealant followed by a thin microsurfacing layer and is set to wrap up in just two days. Residents are advised to expect brief delays—fifteen minutes or less—while each street segment receives attention. Roads may be restricted to a single lane with flaggers guiding drivers through the work areas. Parking will not be permitted during operations, with signs posted the day before. The city encourages patience as it enhances Galesburg’s streets.
