Also in the Packet:
1. Henry County Tourism Bureau— Staff attended the Henry County Tourism Bureau meeting in Bishop Hill on August 26th. The County has once again been selected to receive grant funding from the Illinois Office of Tourism (IOT), and is participating in the IOT’s Marketing Co-op Program, with target markets in Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Des Moines, and Bureau, Knox, and Rock Island Counties.
2. Industrial Development— Construction has begun on the craft grow facility at 1600 Kuster Way. Staff performed partial footing inspections this past week with additional footing inspections scheduled.
3. Fire Department Openings— With the retirement of Tony Finn, along with the recent resignations of Madison Allen and Ryleigh Clark, the department now finds itself understaffed by one fire fighter per shift with no eligible candidates remaining on the hiring list. Chief Welgat and the Police & Fire Commission are in the midst of recruiting candidates for an upcoming round of testing.
4. Life-saving Efforts — City crews recently responded to a “man down” emergency call at the Kewanee Life Skills Re-entry Center. Two of the patient’s coworkers initiated CPR, attached a defibrillator and called 911. They were joined by another civilian, an off-duty nurse, who began respirations. The trio shocked the patient three times before the ambulance arrived to continue CPR, administer medications, and ultimately four more shocks from the defibrillator. The patient returned to spontaneous circulation and is expected to make a full recovery.
5. Life-saving Efforts (pt.2) — Our crews also responded to a UTV accident with an unresponsive patient. With the patient having no pulse, police officers provided CPR until the arrival of the ambulance. Ambulance personnel then provided medications and continued CPR during transport to OSF-SLMC where the patient was transported by helicopter for additional treatment. Both instances serve as examples of the impact that quick actions by trained personnel can be the difference between life and death. Our plan is to recognize the life-saving efforts of those involved at an upcoming City Council meeting.
6. Hospital Drill— Emergency responders will be participating in a drill at OSF-SLMC on September 19th. The drill will be multi-jurisdictional and allow staff to train with employees of the hospital and the Henry County Office of Emergency Management, among other entities.
