Prophetstown Man is Looking at Felony Charges

A Prophetstown man is facing felony charges after a fatal two-vehicle crash in Whiteside County. Jacob Penaflor, 40, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs on May 21st, resulting in a collision that killed Benjamin Weidel, 39.

Authorities say Penaflor’s THC levels were above the legal limit when tested within two hours of the incident. Additional charges include operating a vehicle without insurance, causing bodily harm, and disregarding a stop sign. Penaflor’s car rolled several times after the impact, and he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Penaflor is set to appear in court October 30.
