A single-vehicle crash closed the East Street viaduct and part of Railroad Avenue on Tuesday night. Shortly after 10 PM on September 30, 2025, a vehicle crashed on the south side of the viaduct, ending up in the trees along the railroad tracks. The vehicle caught on fire, and the Kewanee Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire. After midnight, Hodges Towing lifted the vehicle out of the trees, allowing the police to completely process and photograph the vehicle. The roadway reopened around 2 AM on Wednesday. Drivers should drive with caution in the southbound lane under the viaduct, because the billboard along the road was damaged in the crash and was cut down by the fire department. The Kewanee Police Department placed cones around the section of the billboard in the southbound lane.
We are not releasing any additional information until the Kewanee Police Department issues a press release.
