Hailey Larsen of Ottawa has been recognized as the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation’s 21st Century Scholar, receiving a $4,000 award for her academic achievements. The honor was presented at the annual Scholars Society dinner, an event that also celebrated three additional finalists and numerous recipients of excellence and merit scholarships. The Foundation’s president praised Larsen’s hard work and dedication, noting the impact such scholarships have on the future of local students. Larsen expressed gratitude for the support, saying it will help her continue her education. The college community applauded the achievement as an inspiration for others.
“As I pursue a career in the medical field, I know there will be challenges ahead. But receiving this award not only eases the financial burden—it also opens doors to opportunities I may not otherwise have had. It allows me, and many others like me, to focus fully on our studies and lay the foundation for a bright and impactful future,” said Hailey Larsen in her acceptance speech.
Illinois Valley Community College celebrated academic achievement by awarding $16,500 in scholarships to nine outstanding second-year students this year. With a minimum 3.5 GPA, college involvement, and community service as key criteria, students like Kambri Fisher, Eleanor Radtke, and Danica Scoma each received the $2,500 Excellence Award. Merit Awards of $1,000 went to Isabella Argubright, Allison Kubiak, Bhawna, Maya Zeman, and Nathanial Hansen
“Thanks to the support I have received from this scholarship, I feel more prepared and motivated to take the next steps in this journey. I am excited for what lies ahead and the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the lives of others,” Larsen said.
Since its inception in 2007, the 21st Century Scholars Society has honored 221 students with over $260,000, supported by members who contribute annually and meet to celebrate inspiring student stories.
“The 21st Century Scholars Society is more than a gathering—it is a celebration of potential, where students share their journeys and donors witness the real impact of their generosity,” said Tracy Beattie, Executive Director of the Foundation at IVCC. “It is truly a memorable evening for all.”
