A business owner on South State Street in Geneseo contacted police after hearing unexplained noises in their ceiling on Wednesday evening. Officers responding to the scene searched the premises and detected similar suspicious sounds, but could not locate the source. A second call brought officers back, where they heard whispering and movement within the building’s walls. With assistance from the Geneseo Fire Protection District, responders rescued an individual found trapped between walls. Police arrested 26-year-old Caleigh A. Gottsche of Davenport, Iowa, on charges including burglary, felony criminal damage to property, and criminal trespass to property. During their investigation, authorities discovered that several businesses in the area had suffered damage to shared roof structures, potentially used as access points. Investigators are determining whether others may have been involved. Gottsche was taken to Henry County Jail.

While inspecting, responding officers also heard a noise, yet were unable to pinpoint its source or cause. No further disturbances were reported, and the search ended without incident at 5:52 PM.
At around 6:10 PM, authorities responded for a second time to a business after the owner reported suspicious noises coming from another part of the property. As officers expanded their search to neighboring establishments on the same block, they detected whispering voices and movement from within various structure areas nearby. Police conducted a careful sweep of the premises, intensifying efforts in response to the unusual activity.
