The Kewanee Veterans Council will hold a Veterans’ Day Service at the Wethersfield High School Gymnasium on November 11th at 10 AM. Community members are invited to attend and honor local veterans during this annual event. Featuring the Wethersfield High School band led by Patric Wilson. Jerry Thompson served as master of ceremonies with remarks, while Lauren Dana performed the National Anthem. The ceremony included an invocation by Chaplain Lou VanDeVoorde, a POW/MIA service by Ted Canellos, and introductions by Mayor Gary Moore and Kewanee City Council members
Commanders representing the American Legion, VFW, and Kewanee Veterans Council will lead Tuesday’s community ceremony, highlighting the contributions of local veterans. Students from Wethersfield and Kewanee High Schools are set to deliver speeches honoring those who’ve served. Music will be provided by the Wethersfield High School Band, setting a respectful tone for the proceedings. The event will conclude with closing remarks and a benediction, and Taps by John Blake. Immediately afterward, a parade—with a police escort—will drive by Central School, Visitation Catholic School, and Irving School, offering residents an opportunity to show appreciation and unity in support of area veterans. Central Elementary and Junior High School students will hand out a goodie bag to veterans in the parade.
