Superintendent Rebecca Baney of Kewanee School District #229 has received the Illinois Agricultural Education Advocacy Award for District 1. The honor, presented by the Illinois Leadership Council for Agricultural Education (ILCAE), recognizes Baney’s outstanding commitment to advancing agricultural education and literacy. Nominated by Mrs. Kindra Callahan, Baney was celebrated for her leadership and dedication to expanding learning opportunities and community partnerships within the district. The award ceremony took place on December 3, 2025, at Central IL Ag in Atlanta, Illinois, with Representative Dan Swanson acknowledging Baney’s advocacy and positive impact on students participating in the district’s agricultural programs.
“Agricultural education remains a cornerstone of our district’s commitment to inspire the mind and honor the heart of every Boilermaker who walks our hallways. By participating in agriculture programs, students develop essential values, leadership abilities, and a service-minded work ethic that benefits the broader community. I am honored to receive this recognition and deeply grateful to the Kewanee Community Unit School District #229 Board of Education, the teachers, the students, and the community partners who make this work possible. They are #simplythebest229,” said Superintendent Baney.
