Shortly after midnight on February 8th, the Galesburg Fire Department responded to a major blaze at 53 Duffield Street. Heavy smoke and flames engulfed the two-story home, prompting crews to launch defensive tactics, including using an aerial ladder to protect nearby houses. All occupants and a dog escaped safely, with no injuries to residents or firefighters. One resident went to the hospital for evaluation. Off-duty firefighters were called in, assisted by the Knoxville Fire Protection District. Utilities were cut off, and nearby streets were salted to prevent ice buildup. The fire left the building unstable, leading to an immediate demolition order. The cause remains under investigation.
