Heather Bomstad, MSN, RN, president of OSF HealthCare Saint Clare and Saint Paul Medical Centers, has earned national recognition from Becker’s Hospital Review as one of its Critical Access Hospital Presidents and CEOs to Know for 2025. This distinction highlights Bomstad’s leadership in advancing rural healthcare through innovative practices and a steadfast commitment to high-quality patient care. She shares this honor with Kelly Jefferson, president of OSF HealthCare St. Francis Hospital & Medical Group, and August Querciagrossa, CEO of OSF HealthCare Western Region. Their collective achievements underscore OSF HealthCare’s dedication to strengthening healthcare access in rural communities across the region. The honor highlights their ongoing commitment to providing quality care throughout central Illinois. OSF HealthCare continues to set a high standard, with its executives being acknowledged for leadership and innovation in the critical access hospital field.

Heather Bomstad leads OSF Saint Clare and OSF Saint Paul hospitals, where her focus is on patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational excellence. As president, Bomstad emphasizes teamwork and the dedication of Mission Partners—staff who drive the hospitals’ mission to serve local communities. “I am grateful for this recognition, but it truly reflects the work of our entire team,” Bomstad said. “Our Mission Partners are the heart of our hospitals and their commitment to caring for our communities is what makes this possible every day.”

Her leadership supports both day-to-day hospital management and long-term goals that align with OSF HealthCare’s vision. With a career at OSF HealthCare spanning over three decades, Bomstad brings experience from previous roles as vice president and chief nursing officer. Both hospitals serve as critical access points, ensuring essential healthcare remains available to rural populations.

August Querciagrossa is spearheading significant advancements in healthcare access across Illinois’ rural communities as CEO of OSF HealthCare’s Western Region. In response to the abrupt closure of a hospital in Peru, Illinois, Querciagrossa led efforts to rapidly expand emergency and primary care, introduce digital health offerings, and enhance specialized services such as obstetrics and rehabilitation. His leadership resulted in the successful reopening and transformation of the OSF HealthCare Saint Elizabeth Medical Center campus, providing new jobs and vital medical services. Querciagrossa now oversees eight hospitals, several of which have received national recognition for their quality of care.
