Black Hawk College is inviting prospective students to explore careers in court reporting and captioning with a free, hands-on course held on Saturdays from March 21st to April 25th, from 9 to 11 AM, at its Quad-Cities campus in Moline. In partnership with Project Steno, this six-week basic training program introduces the essentials of stenographic theory and practice, with all materials provided apart from shipping. Participants can test-drive this high-demand field before committing to a two-year degree. Graduates are prepared for roles as judicial reporters and broadcast captioners.

“This program is a wonderful opportunity for students to explore a profession that is both rewarding and in high demand,” said Suzette Weis, assistant professor of court reporting at Black Hawk College.

While there’s no charge to participate, space in the program is limited, making early registration crucial. Interested individuals have several options: contact Darcy Jeffries at Black Hawk College at [email protected], sign up online at Project Steno’s website—be sure to include Black Hawk College and March 21 in your message—or email Project Steno at [email protected]. The organization’s mission is to ensure a steady supply of professionals in this vital career field. More details are available at projectsteno.org.
