The Kewanee Fire Department is urging residents to observe city ordinances regarding open burning. Officials remind the public that burning landscape waste is only allowed on Wednesdays and Saturdays during April, May, and June, and then again from September through November. Recent mild weather may encourage early yard work, but fire risk is especially high in late winter and early spring when vegetation remains dry, and winds are strong. Brush fires are often accidental this time of year. Residents are asked to wait until the designated months before burning. For safety concerns or questions, contact the fire department’s non-emergency line at 309-852-2115.
During the landscape waste burn season, residents are advised to call 309-852-2611 and choose the burn day option before starting any fires to ensure that day is a burn day.
