A late-night pursuit unfolded on March 2, 2026, in Knox County after a deputy attempted to stop a vehicle with an excessively loud exhaust on Illinois Route 41. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, but the driver fled from the deputy into the Village of St. Augustine. The driver disregarded traffic control devices and drove through a yard and a field. The driver, later identified as 37-year-old Bradley Allen Canier of East Galesburg, disregarded traffic laws and traversed both residential and agricultural properties before becoming disabled at a creek. Canier fled on foot and entered a nearby home, prompting a drone-assisted search and perimeter setup.

According to the release, “The homeowner advised deputies the individual knocked on his door stating he had crashed his vehicle and needed a ride. As the homeowner exited to assist, the suspect observed deputies in the area and ran back into the residence. The homeowner then exited and made contact with deputies.”

He refused to exit the home but was eventually apprehended after Knox County / Galesburg Police Department Special Response Team (SRT) officers breached the door. Canier faces multiple charges and was cleared by medical personnel at the scene.

Canier was evaluated by the Galesburg Hospital Ambulance Service on the scene and cleared of any medical issues. Canier was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with Criminal Trespass to Residence, Disobeying a Stop Sign, and Driving While License Suspended.
