Kewanee FFA Students Explore Soil Science and Sustainability at “Ag Day” with Kewanee Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs

Kewanee High School FFA students took part in a collaborative “Ag Day” hosted by the Kewanee Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, shining a spotlight on agricultural education in the region. The event featured Brandon Hall, operations manager at West Central FS and known as @ILSOILNERD, who delivered insight into the science behind soil formation and health. Hall shared his journey from Black Hawk College to soil expert, emphasizing the importance of long-term sustainability through soil management principles. Students gained valuable knowledge about soil erosion, biodiversity, and conservation, highlighting how local partnerships foster hands-on agricultural learning and community connection. Hall concluded by advocating for sustainable practices, capturing students’ attention with the motto, “Soil is the new cool.”
